Sneak peek at our Austin BBQ Tour

The Posse was wheels up from Dallas early this morning to check out the growing Austin barbecue scene, which we believe could be overtaking Lockhart as the capital of Texas BBQ. This trip was a chance to test that theory.

Stay tuned to the Texas BBQ Posse blog for stories and snippets from the trip. Our reporting will culminate at the end of April with a story in The Dallas Morning News and multimedia on dallasnews.com.

Here's the trip itinerary:

Austin BBQ Tour

6:30am: Leave Dallas
9:30am: Franklin Barbecue, 900 E. 11th, Austin, (512) 653-1187. Open Tues-Sun, 11 a.m.-until the meat runs out.
Noon: La Barbecue, 1502 S 1st St, Austin, 512-605-9696. Open Wed-Sun 11am-6pm.
1pm: John Mueller Meat Co., 2500 E. 6th Street, Austin, Open Tues-Sun 10:30am until sold out.
2:00pm: Micklethwait Craft Meats, 1309 Rosewood Ave, Austin, 512-791-5961. Open Wed-Sun 11:00am-3:00pm.
3:30pm: Stiles Switch BBQ & Brew, 6610 N Lamar Blvd., Austin, 512-380-9199 . Open Tues-Thurs 11am-8:30pm, Fri-Sat 11am-9:30pm, Sun 11am-8pm.
4:30pm: Head back to Dallas
